This guide walks you through everything you need to run your first accessibility audit in Labrador. By the end, you’ll have a live account, a project with at least one page, some criteria evaluated, and a report you can share, all without touching a spreadsheet. The whole process takes around ten minutes on a real site, or just a few minutes if you’re exploring with a demo page.
1

Create your account

Go to testwithlabrador.com/signup and create a free account. No credit card is required, the Free plan gives you one project slot and the full WCAG testing toolkit right away. If you prefer, click Continue with Google to sign in using your Google account instead.Once you’re signed in, you land on the Projects dashboard. This is your home base for all audits.
2

Create a project

On the Projects dashboard, click + Create Project and fill in the details:
  1. Enter a Project Title, for example, the client name or site being tested.
  2. Add an optional Description to give the project context.
  3. Choose a Testing Methodology from the dropdown:
    • WCAG 2.2 AA Testing, the standard choice for most audits
    • VPAT® 2.5 – WCAG 2.2, required if you need a .docx VPAT output
  4. Click Create Project.
Choose your Testing Methodology carefully, this setting cannot be changed after the project is created. If you need to produce a .docx VPAT document, select the VPAT methodology before you click Create.
3

Add a page or component

Inside your new project, click + Add Page / Component to add the first item you want to test:
  1. Enter a Name that identifies the item, for example, Homepage or Checkout Form.
  2. Paste in the URL of the page or component (required for AI-assisted remediation to work correctly).
  3. Optionally upload a Screenshot to help you or teammates identify the item at a glance.
  4. Click Create.
Repeat this step for every page or UI component you plan to test. You can add more at any point during the audit.
4

Audit the criteria

Click on the page you just created to open its Criteria Overview. This lists every applicable WCAG success criterion alongside its current test status. To evaluate a criterion:
  1. Use the filters at the top to narrow the list, filter by Level (A or AA), Status (Untested, Pass, Fail, N/A), or Severity if you’ve already logged issues.
  2. Click a criterion, for example, 1.1.1 Non-text Content, to open the testing panel.
  3. Read the Testing Tip for actionable guidance on how to evaluate that criterion.
  4. Mark the test status:
    • Pass, the page meets the requirement
    • Fail, the page does not meet the requirement
    • N/A, the criterion doesn’t apply to this page
    • Untested, you haven’t evaluated it yet
  5. If you mark a criterion Fail, scroll to Add New Issue and document the problem: write a description, select a Severity level, add remediation guidance, attach screenshots or video, and click Submit Issue.
Work through the criteria list at whatever pace suits you, all your work saves automatically.
5

Export your report

When you’re ready to share findings, click the Export dropdown at the top of your project and choose a format:
  • HTML, an interactive, client-ready report with embedded media, clickable WCAG links, and a developer-focused “Show Failures Only” view
  • CSV, a detailed flat export for use in spreadsheets or custom workflows
  • Jira CSV, a file formatted for direct import into Jira (available on all plans)
  • PDF / Word (VPAT), a VPAT® 2.5 Word document, available only for projects created with the VPAT methodology
Your report is generated instantly from the audit data you’ve collected.
The AI-assisted remediation feature, which drafts developer-ready fix guidance based on the element’s live HTML, requires the Labrador AI Accessibility Assistant Chrome extension to be installed. Download it free from the Chrome Web Store and make sure the page you’re auditing has a valid URL entered before you try to generate a recommendation.
